Who we are
Here at Lyra Dance Company, I do things a little differently…
LDC is a recreational dance studio only.
I do not offer competitive dance teams for children.
There are many wonderful reasons to explore competitive dancing for your child and competition teams can be very enriching for the right candidate.
However, I believe recreational dance- dancing for fun- is just as, if not more enriching for most dancers!
In my 30+ years of dancing, cheer, and performance art, I have tried it all: recreational activities, competitive activities, troupe dancing, flash mobs and more!
And what I’ve always come back to is this:
Once it stops being fun, people put down things they once found joy in and they never come back.
As a recreational studio, it is my mission to keep dancing joyful and supportive for folks of all ages, stages, and abilities.
I believe this is what creates lifelong dancers, who will always have the confidence to seek out movement not just for exercise, but for joy and community.
Recreational dance nurtures the whole dancer: body, mind, and spirit!
Recreation dance also creates equitable, affordable access to the arts.
LDC might be a good fit for you or your child if:
· You like to dance for fun!
· You want to push yourself out of your comfort zone with the option to modify movements to fit your ability.
· You don’t have “a dancer’s body” and want to explore movement in a body-positive environment.
· You want to improve balance, memory, and muscle tone while moving to fun music.
· You’re looking to socialize a little more. Dance classes can be wonderful for introverts or neurodivergent folks because you’re essentially engaging in parallel play with the other dancers. It’s low energy socializing!
· You’re a “process over product” person. It’s not about looking like the person next to you or being perfect, it’s about the journey and the friends we make along the way!
· You want low stress, low pressure recital or performance experiences. (Recitals/performances are generally for youth dancers but adults always have the option to join!)
· You want an affordable, local dance option.
At the end of the day, my mission is to nurture a community where movement becomes a source of healing, joy, and self-discovery. To inspire people of all ages, stages, and abilities to find confidence through movement!
I hope to see you on the dancefloor soon!
